For professional web designers, my personal preference is Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Firework. But be Honestly, both programs are kind of pricey. Although the prices quite higher compare with other similar software, for long term investment on this kind of software you will feel save both of your time and money.
For normal user, you might build your first website once or less. So it is unnecessary to paid for so much for purchasing this kind of software we mention above unless you must want it one. My opinion is looking for those freeware or trial version of editor to build your site. Most of the software provider will give you a trial period before you purchase it. My suggestion is, Try it before own it, or you may regret to purchased a software that is unsuitable for you web design project.
The difference of freeware and trial version:
- Freeware is software that is available for free to download and use, but need to follow the rules of the provider. Most of the freeware is under beta or less function compare with paid version.
- Trial Version is software that is available download for free, but some feature of product is locked and after the trial period(normally 30, 45 days), you will unable to use it without upgrade or purchase it. You may purchase or upgrade to full version to unlock and use all the function of the software.
Here is an example of free html editor that let you download and use for free and what they said:
